Sasa Mimi Ni Miyale

Sasa Mimi Ni Miyale

+ABOUT

+ABOUT

"Sasa mimi ni miyale" is Swahili for "I am now the Sun's Rays." The gist of the whole exploration stemmed from Cyrus Kabiru’s “Miyale Ya Blue.” Kabiru takes a western device (radio) and decolonizes it using Kenyan Kikuyu ornementation while also using modern materials in order to create a transmissive device. I decided that I would do the same and decolonize myself using modern methods. The exploration focused on how my Kikuyu ancestors felt under Colonial British Rule and how I could use the Sun’s Rays (Miyale) as power to free myself and my ancestors.
