Placing "Miyale Ya Blue" by Cyrus Kabiru into Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, USA away from its origin in Nairobi, Kenya, turning an informal and mobile gathering space into a curated and isolated object. Though removed from its natural context, it remains alive through the memories and rituals it carries. The drawing channels Kenyan spatial traditions into diasporic forms found in the American South, using the barbershop, the kitchen, and the front porch as vessels of memory and community. Each space reflects how gathering, storytelling, and care move across geographies, transforming local customs into shared experiences. Voices echoing from barbershop chairs, meals simmering in the kitchen, laughter spilling from porches, each becoming a conduit through which "Miyale Ya Blue" continues to record and transmit what it means to gather across the African diaspora.
